Daily Deviation

Cloak and Daggar by *SaraRichard `hellobaby says of this amazing piece, "I want to suggest to you a deviation from this great artist, *SaraRichard. It's such a wonderful traditional piece of art." ( Suggested by `Hellobaby and Featured by `WDWParksGal )

First point I must get across: WOW. This is one of the coolest pieces of fan ART I've ever seen. I capitalized "art" because this piece employs a recognizable style outside of the popular American comic book or Japanese Anime/Manga styles that are generally employed to depict iconic pop-culture characters. I myself adopt the former of the mentioned styles in all my artwork because that's the style I was exposed to growing up as an artist. Even the way I envision and tell stories employs the same style; but your employment of the art noveau style to a primarily American comic book stylized pair of characters is something new and fresh to me, and that gains to brownie points ;)

The wispiness of Dagger's hair and Cloak's.....er, well, cloak is what really drew my eyes. Those erratic, yet motivated lines successfully moves our vision in a sort of counter-clockwise swirling pattern, focusing our attention more on Dagger than on Cloak. This isn't a bad thin, though, because Dagger's light is meant to draw our attention from Cloak's dark abyss as a sign of hope, purity, and all good things. Dagger is meant to be Cloak's moral guide, his good conscience; without her, he's a scatter-brained, melancholic vigilante.

The opaque splatter, the moonlit backdrop, and the muted colors really gives us a sense of atmosphere: a cold, wintry night. This is an aspect I've never thought about with the duo: what season would they fit in? I think you chose an appropriate setting as it enhances the overall feeling.

Again, great job, and love the style. Keep up the good work!

Now this is Art! :D The critiquer spoke intelligently about it, but all I have to say at the moment is that this is something I aspire to. It pushes the boundaries of fanart - and illustration for that matter.
